Join us in celebrating June as African American Music Appreciation Month with a lecture from music historian and professor of Jazz Studies, Todd Wright.
The program, Personalities in Jazz: A North Carolina Connection, will focus on the contributions of three genre-defining musicians who all hail from North Carolina: John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Nina Simone.
Todd Wright earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from Pikeville College (KY) and then entered Appalachian State University where he earned the Master of Music and Education Specialist Degrees. He also has a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of South Florida. Todd Wright is in demand as a saxophonist and often serves as a clinician leading workshops of jazz improvisation. In addition, Wright adjudicates at contests and festivals. He also leads lectures on jazz history.

ABOUT THE HIGH COUNTRY JAZZ FESTIVAL
The inaugural 2022 High Country Jazz Festival is a collaborative project to host exceptional and engaging jazz experiences in Boone and Blowing Rock that will attract regional audiences while raising funds to support the arts and education programs of the Appalachian Theatre, App State Jazz Studies Program and Boone Sunrise Rotary that sustain and enrich our High Country home.
Anchor events will take place in the newly reopened Appalachian Theatre and under the tent at the Chetola Resort and will include a host of affiliated jazz experiences featuring outdoor concerts, late night jams, jazz lunches and film produced by great community partners in Boone and Blowing Rock, North Carolina that include the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, Casa Rustica, High Country Jazz Society, Jones House, Lost Province, and Ransom Pub.
