Cole Ellis Memorial Screening of 1959’s hit western “Rio Bravo”.

Admission: This is a free screening, donations to the Cole Ellis Scholarship fund are greatly appreciated.

Cole Ellis, A 14-year-old boy, died in a tragic tractor accident while doing farm work. 

The community has rallied together to help the Ellis Family through this difficult time. As a special memorial event, a special screening presentation of the 1959 Western Film “Rio Bravo” starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, and Ricky Nelson. This film was was a favorite of Cole’s and his family would be happy to share this viewing with the Watauga community to celebrate Cole’s life.

Andrew, and LeAnn Ellis, Cole's parents, are using the different donations given to their family to create a memorial scholarship in Cole’s name. Donations to the scholarship fund can be made at any North Carolina State Employee's Credit Union.  You can also donate to the FFA program at Cove Creek  School where Cole was President of the Agricultural Program.

About the movie: When gunslinger Joe Burdette (Claude Akins) kills a man in a saloon, Sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) arrests him with the aid of the town drunk, Dude (Dean Martin). Before long, Burdette's brother, Nathan (John Russell), comes around, indicating that he's prepared to bust his brother out of jail if necessary. Chance decides to make a stand until reinforcements arrive, enlisting Dude, an old cripple named Stumpy (Walter Brennan) and baby-faced cowboy Colorado Ryan (Ricky Nelson) to help.

Metered street parking & pay lots are monitored and parking is enforced Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 pm except on town observed holidays.

Parking is $1.00/hour at all metered parking spaces. 
Metered & lot parking is free all day on Sundays and every day after 5 p.m.
 
Parking in Appalachian State parking lots (e.g. the Peacock Lot accessed off Howard Street) is available for free on week nights after 5 p.m. and on non-gameday/event weekends on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Accessible Parking:
Parking at metered accessible parking areas is free, as long as the correct placard/license plate is displayed and up to date.
