When the transition is being made from silent films to `talkies', everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practise with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice Starring: Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor.
Cinema Classics Series presents a month-long celebration of classic movie musicals at the Appalachian Theatre of the High Country.
“The Wizard of Oz” (1939) will start things off on Tuesday Aug. 30. Followed by fan favorites “A Star is Born” on Sept. 13, “Singing in the Rain” (1952) on Sept. 20, and, appropriately, the movie musical “Grease” (1978) on Sept. 26 to commemorate the birthday of the late Australian singer and actress Olivia Newton-John, star of the popular film.

Metered & lot parking is free all day on Sundays and every day after 5 p.m.
Parking in Appalachian State parking lots (e.g. the Peacock Lot accessed off Howard Street) is available for free on week nights after 5 p.m. and on non-gameday/event weekends on Saturday and Sunday.
Metered street parking & pay lots are monitored and parking is enforced Monday – Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 pm except on town observed holidays.
Accessible Parking:
Parking at metered accessible parking areas is free, as long as the correct placard/license plate is displayed and up to date.
