The Cinema Classics series is sponsored by Neil and Nancy Schaffel.
Loosely based on Homer's "Odyssey," the follows the quirky adventures of Ulysses Everett McGill and his companions Delmar and Pete in 1930s Mississippi. Sprung from a chain gang and pursued by a relentless lawman, they search for the buried loot of a bank heist while they are confronted by a series of strange characters--among them sirens, a cyclops, bank robber George "Baby Face" Nelson, a campaigning governor and his opponent, a KKK lynch mob, and a blind prophet who warns the trio that "the treasure you seek shall not be the treasure you find."
The film's soundtrack became an unlikely blockbuster, sold five million copies by 2010 and spawned a documentary film, three follow-up albums, two concert tours, and won Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Single of the Year for "Man of Constant Sorrow" sung by Dan Tyminski.
