John McEuen, a founding member of the iconic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and American Banjo Museum Hall of Famer, returns to Boone to help reopen this theatre once again.  He brings his banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin - to share his music and memories of his 55-year life in music along with his unique cast of Americana string wizards including Les Thompson, John Cable (both also previous NGDB members) and Matt Cartsonis

With the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John initiated the 1972 classic Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, (inducted in to the Library of Congress as ‘one of America’s most important recordings). Proud of being an integral part of America’s first band to go to Russia (28 sold 0ut shows in 1977!), John’s love of performing has been evident since his teenage Magic Shop days in Disneyland. McEuen’s show takes us ‘behind the curtain’ of the music world that so many of us know of only as listeners and shows us how we have all been a part of it, more than we may know.

Jack Lawrence has been called a "flatpicking powerhouse." His recordings and performances combine exciting, high spirited and innovative guitar solos with tasteful phrasing in his own inventive style. Jack played side-by-side with Doc Watson for over 25 years and the two musicians developed a brilliant guitar partnership, capitalizing on both their strengths. Jack's talents are featured on many of Doc's recordings, including the Grammy winner "On Praying Ground." The solo project "About Time," released in 1997, showcases Jack's amazing guitar style and rich, warm vocals.

No stranger to the High Country, regional musician/tradition bearer, T. Michael Coleman, was among those named to the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in 2021. Coleman grew up in Mayodan, playing sports and singing in church. In college, at Appalachian State University in Boone, he developed an appreciation of folk music. He followed his music path a little ways down the road to Deep Gap when he began playing and touring with Doc and Merle Watson. With that dynamic duo, he toured the world and participated in many Grammy-nominated and Grammy- awarded recordings, many of which he produced.  After 15 years, the path led Coleman to perform and record with the Seldom Scene in Washington, DC. This branched off to Chesapeake and other music projects such as “Ready For The Times” with Bryan Sutton and David Holt. Coleman also played with Johnny Cash. He rejoined Doc Watson and toured again with him till the end of Doc’s life.

This special performance celebrates the October 14, 2019 Grand Opening concert of the Appalachian Theatre. Join us as we once again honor the legacy of Doc Watson and re-open the Doc Watson Stage for Americana Music.
